Stuhy a malé stužky

Diskuse

Occasionally there is a question about ribbons or bows, maybe it would be good to concentrate them in one place.

Ribbons are an integral part of the honours. They often have a heraldic role, the colours used and their combinations are intended to express the symbolism of e.g. national colours, colours of state flags etc. The materials used for their production are usually of high quality, e.g. silk, often decorated with fancy moiré. Sometimes, however, the quality is poor. The supplier supplied it either unwittingly or with the intention of cheating. Examples are the Bulgarian Commemorative Medal for the wedding of Ferdinand I or the lower grades of the Yugoslav Order of the Crown, where the undamaged ribbon is almost invisible. Ribbons are unfortunately less durable than the metal part of the decoration (called planchette). Leaving aside the well-known "fading" in direct sunlight, textiles, especially of lesser quality, simply age. Ribbons also suffer from more frequent wear. Until the beginning of the First World War, decorations were worn daily in natura. Ribbons did not last long. It was not until the beginning of the war that the so-called small ribbons, called service ribbons in English, appeared for practical reasons. The wearing of full decorations (in natura) survived in some countries like the USSR. Even wearing the ribbons occasionally, e.g. during ceremonies, damages the ribbons.

It is therefore common that in large countries where uniforms and medals are popular, such as the USA, Russia, France, Britain, etc., replacement ribbons can be bought and worn by the wearer at the slightest damage or soiling.
And now to the collectors. Recently there has been a growing trend to worship original ribbons, even if they are faded, soiled or torn. Of course, if we have a medal that is over 150 years old with a nice patina, we wouldn't mind a faded, torn ribbon, and we might not even be able to get a new one. There are also cases where the original ribbon alone is more expensive than the whole medal. However, for younger medals, e.g. from World War II, we do not hesitate to replace a damaged ribbon if we have a good quality replacement.

It can also happen that we get a medal without a ribbon and, unwillingly, we have to try to find a ribbon. This is problematic, for example, for Tsarist decorations. In most cases they are without ribbons. But even here the help is easy, high quality tsar silk ribbons were produced in Dobruška for our legionaries after WWII. As already mentioned, in large countries, replacement ribbons are made in perfect quality, but somewhere inferior, synthetic. So you have to ask, search and ask again. If you are looking for some ribbon, ask here, maybe someone can help you.

Vycházejí i knihy specializované pouze na stuhy. Např:
Willi Geile, Deutches Banderbuch, Offenbach am Main 2001
Guido Rosignoli, Ribbons of Orders, Decorations and Medals, Poole 1979
Existují i sběratelské kluby, ať už samostatné či v rámci sběrarelů vyznamenání. Např. Ribbons Branch v rámci význačné britské Orders and Medals Research Society. Většinou lze u nich i stuhy koupit.

Chtělo by to vidět tu fotografii.

Ano, bude to některé z výšeuvedených vyznamenání.

Nedokázal by jste mi to upřesnit.

An interesting article by Květoslav Growka, Typology of Czechoslovak ribbons, was recently published here. For supplementary information I am attaching photos of flag ribbons. Only the banner is missing. If anyone knows of any CSLA banner for sale, please send me a private message.
