These photos show the radar version with semi-active guidance (SARH) R-98R, previous photos are the R-98T version (IR, thermal guidance). They are recognizable by their shape - the radar head has it pointed (aerodynamic), while the IR version is curved, because such a shape requires its IR sensor.

The original R-8 was followed by the development and then production of an improved version, the R-98. It is virtually indistinguishable from the original, which is why it was not given a different designation within NATO, it was left with the AA-3A Anab (the A designating modification was added later, when NATO found out that there was an R-98). The main difference is the new homing warhead, which allows to attack the target from the front hemisphere, the original R-8 was designed only for rear attacks.
