AG-17
The 30 mm (30x29 mm) AG-17 grenade launcher was developed from 1967 at the OKB-16 design bureau in Tula. The AG-17 is a lightened version of the AGS-17 grenade launcher (Automatческий Гранатомет Stanковый АГС-17). It is intended for use as a manned armor for combat vehicles and helicopters (e.g., BMP-1 (Object 765Sp8), BMP-1PG, Mi-24). Development was completed in 1969 and serial production began in 1971.
Its basic tactical-technical characteristics (range, ammunition used) are identical to the heavy version AGS-17.
In addition to the basic AG-17 version, an AG-17A version was also used, lafeted in the side door of Mi-8 helicopters (and as an underhung weapon of Mi-24 helicopters) deployed as part of the Soviet contingent in Afghanistan in the 1980s. The AG-17A is equipped with an aluminum barrel guard, an electrically operated trigger, and has a different method of armament.
