"Usually, the honorary burial place for Red Army soldiers at the Olšany Cemetery in Prague briefly states that Red Army soldiers who died during the liberation of Prague in May 1945 or who died after the war from combat injuries are buried here.

However, the reality is somewhat different. Officially, 437 Red Army soldiers are buried at the Prague Honorary Burial Ground (only 435 graves are marked on the map because two graves contain the remains of two soldiers each - graves No. 430 and No. 431).

In reality, however, 492 Red Army soldiers are buried in the Olšany cemetery. Several dozen Soviet soldiers have no marked grave here today, although it is explicitly documented by contemporary documents that their remains were deposited here. In addition, many Red Army soldiers are not actually buried in the very place where their tombstone is erected today. But that is a topic for another story.

This map (JP note: click on the source) systematizes all currently known information about the causes of death of all Red Army soldiers who have a marked grave in the Olšany cemetery today. Their fates were mapped by the Russian war graves researcher Vladimir Pomortzeff."
