Russia has canceled the planned retirement of third-generation /Project 941 Akula (Typhoon) strategic submarines, /Project 949A Antey (OscarII) by 2020. The planned service life is to be extended to 35 years. Armament and other equipment will be upgraded. They will remain in service until the 4th generation Project 955 Borej (Borey) submarines reach full status.
