An interesting project of a self-propelled mortar, or "waffenträger", was created in 1943 on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw.38(t), specifically the Ausf.M version. The machine could be armed with a wide range of weapons from mortars of 5 cm, 7.3 cm and 8 cm calibers, from 10 cm to 21 cm, or "low-pressure" guns of 7.5 cm to 10 cm calibers, guns of 7.5 cm and 15 cm calibers, howitzers of 10.5 cm caliber, or anti-tank guns of up to 7.5 cm caliber. Only one unfinished mock-up was built. The superstructure was made of plywood. The frontal armour of the superstructure was inclined at an angle of 67°. The Germans lost interest in this project in 1944 and it got no further than this mock-up. Interesting information is that the design was submitted together with the Munition- und Mannschaftsträger auf Fahrgestell 38(t) project as an alternative in the development of a new armored personnel carrier (a replacement for the Sd.Kfz.251). In that case, it would probably have no gun armament and would be used to carry infantry.
