Guided aerial torpedo. The project arose from the knowledge that it is more effective to hit vessels below the waterline. Development began in late 1941. The design was based on the Hs 293C, but the weight of the warhead was virtually doubled to obtain a significantly higher destructive effect. Therefore, it was necessary to use two HWK 109-507D rocket engines for propulsion. It was envisaged to later use the projected BMW P-3375(RII-301) engines and the WASAG 109-512 powder engines. The steering was to be by wire, television tracking. The serial version was to be equipped with Kehl-Strassburg radio command apparatus.
Because the torpedo was to move underwater on the last section of the runway, it was envisaged to separate the wings and the rear part of the fuselage by means of explosive rivets or by deliberate weakening of the structure in appropriate places. After building 125-165 pieces of developmental models of various versions, the project was cancelled due to the absolute lack of suitable aircraft-carriers. The intended design and serial form of the bomber He 177 A-5 were not finalized by the end of the war.
