The A.S.4 gunships were introduced into the armament of the German Naval Air Force (Marineflieger) in 1958. The first four A.S.4s and one T.5 trainer were received by MFG 1 (Marinefliegergeschwader 1), which operated from Schleswig-Jagel airfield. A total of 15 A.S.4 aircraft were delivered to the Germans, receiving German numbers UA-101 to UA-115. In 1962, the aircraft moved to Westerland/Sylt. In November 1964 all Gannets are assembled at Nordholz airbase, where they become the armament of the newly formed MFG 3. 10 of them are in operational service, the rest are stored and kept in reserve in case of operational losses. The Gannets lasted in the service of the German Naval Air Force until 1967, when they were replaced by Breguet Atlantique machines.
