Imperial branná power (Reichswehr)
To 1. January 1921 was established Reichsgau branná power. The details of its functioning was further adapted national defence act of 23. march of the same year. The strength and armament of strongly limiting provisions Versaillské peace agreement. Imperial branná power consisted of the Imperial army of about 100 000 members and of the Imperial navy about 15 000 members.

The army consisted of two group headquarters (Berlin and Kassel), seven pedestrian diviz and three cavalry divisions. The navy had two higher headquarters, one for the North sea and the other for the Baltic sea.

The reich president was the supreme commander of the armed forces. In peace time, he was the command authority to the secretary of the imperial armed forces. It were theoretically subordinate to the commanders of the army and navy, although their actual status was more significant. The military sovereignty of individual countries has been canceled, although Bavaria, Saxony, Baden and Württemberg have a certain limited autonomy of the keep. Eg. Bavaria had the privilege of being area of the military district VII to include the whole of its territory and in 7. the division, which had headquarters in Munich, to serve only bavarian citizens.

Compared to modern armies lacked a number of elements: a connecting unit for higher headquarters, army units outside the framework of divisions, air force, antiaircraft artillery, tank units and anti-tank artillery, heavy artillery, units designed for artillery survey, special engineer units, railway units, cartographers, etc.

Of the 100 thousand member army was the 4 000 officers, including health professionals and veterinarians. Replenishment of units was purely on a volunteer basis. Compulsory military service could not be introduced. The same couldn't be no organization that would provide registration and calling of conscripts. The army, in consequence, had backups. The men and noncommissioned officers to commit themselves to the service of 12 years, in the case of officers it was about 25 years old. Everyone had to take the oath on the constitution of the weimar republic. From the point of view of social composition, while decreasing the proportion of members of a noble origin, however, the military retains the conservative character and she resisted democratization and the penetration of liberal ideas. When refilling were, for example, preference for candidates from the more conservative rural areas from those of urban environment.

Severely limited was the arms industry. Only a few enterprises should be allowed to produce weapons and ammunition, and thanks to its monopolistic position to charge the army relatively high prices. Anyway, wasn't the industry in the state, to support the army in any future conflict.
