The DT-I type was the work of the team of ing. Surin, who decided to use the chassis of the Jagdpanzer 38(t) tank fighter. The vehicle was worked on from 1947-1949. The lightly armored vehicle carried a large winch in the rear. Empty, the vehicle weighed 5.4 tonnes, with a curb weight of 7.2 tonnes. Despite its quality construction, the Czechoslovak army showed no interest in the type. The commercial department tried to find a foreign customer. Prospectively, there was a potential customer, which was the Swiss army. A quotation was prepared for the potential buyer. The prototype cost CZK 2,093,000 (SwFr 180,540). The price of the unit car was 1,216,000 CZK (104,890 SwFr) for a 20-unit series, and 1,195,000 CZK (103,070 SwFr) for a 50-unit series. The prices were adjusted over time, on behalf of ČKD acted ing. Mladějovský. Deliveries were expected in 1951-1952. The DT-I was offered together with the heavier type DT-III. The tractors were intended to be used to tow a 105 mm field howitzer, a cannon of the same calibre and a heavy field howitzer of 150 mm calibre. Competition came from the Austrian Saurer (wheeled tractor), the French Lorraine-Jeunette (tracked tractor) and the British Armstrong-Vickers Alecto (tracked tractor). The Czechoslovak firm won the competition, but no deal was eventually struck for the DT-I. 1)The fate of the prototype was unclear for a long time. Páni Ivo Pejčoch and Tomáš Jakl found this vehicle on film footage (from the VHÚ collections) from the mid-1960s, which was used to haul scrap metal at the Vítkovice ironworks.
