The away team was thrown from the aircraft Halifax JP231/NF -, AND, belonging to the 301. squadron . The crew consisted of pilot F/Sgt Antoni Tomiczek, navigator P/O Leon Schedlin-Czarliński, the radio operator F/Sgt Aleksander Nikodon, on-board mechanic Sgt mr mieczysław Posłuszny, dispatcher P/O Wiktor Aniołek, bombardier F/O Zygmunt Lipiński and gunner F/Sgt Frederick Konior. The machine started at 18:25 from the base of Brindisi in Italy, where also, after the 10:25 morning flight landed.
