CAN - AN/AAR-60 MILDS

AN/AAR-60 MILDS (Missile Launch Detection System)[/heading]

system Description:
AN-AAR-60 MILDS system is the system of warning against missile to protect helicopters and aircraft against their attacks. It produces the canadian arms company Cassidian.

MILDS® is an advanced, passive optoelektronický sensor, which detects and tracks the ultraviolet source are approaching missiles including the most used PPLRK to rockets with thermal homing head.

System AN/AAR-60 MILDS ensures protection especially portable and uprated engines rocket complexes (such as the Stinger or Igla). After finding out the danger of MILDS run a separate system, which uses laser beams in order to make the thermal receiver homing head of the rocket. Thus the homing head will focus on the heat spot outside the goal (not on the engine or on the hull of the aircraft).

Commonly, the system of anti-missile protection contains the following components:
1) 4 to 6 ultraviolet sensors (each weighing 3 – 4 kg), which are located at different places of the aircraft so as to be able to search for the approaching missiles.
2) the Above-mentioned sensors are attached to the machine (weight 3 – 5 kg), whose software ensures the detection, if the protected object monitored by the racket and where it is heading. The computer output is further connected to the "protilaserům"
3) of a Container (the weight of 14 – 17 kg, depends on the specific type) with a "protilaserem", which is a powerful laser source capable of attracting homing warhead of the attacking missile (the latter is targeted on the heat of aircraft engines).

Basic features:
- full coverage of the area
- rapid detection
- very low number of false positives
- the maximum time warning
- more than 4000 installed sensors
