Theodore Ellyson was born on 27. February 1885 in Richmond. In 1901 he began studies at the Naval academy, which graduated in 1905. He then served in the battleships TEXAS and MISSOURI. In the functions of the first officer and the commander of the ship's company, he served on the cruisers PENNSYLVANIA and COLORADO. And in the Far east he served on the cruiser WEST VIRGINIA, the mother ship of submarines RAINBOW, and submarine SHARK. After his return to the U.S. he commanded the submarines TARANTULA and SEAL. From service on submarines to Ellyson knew with Kenneth Whitingem, which pushed it to get as much as he filed an application for admission to the pilot course.
