Dalton odchádza in marci 1940 to England ako inštruktor Practical training units. In 1943 sa again pripája to summon jednotke Královninich own strelcov Canada (The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada) and as a major preberá velenie B company.

Dalton viedol company B in the day vylodenia in Normandy, where sa together with that of 08.00 landed at the Bernieres-sur-Mer just over opornému point and rota sa gets to strong kulometnej fire.
