Eduard Hospodarž was born as the son of an officer in Graz 7. October 1862, whose family came from Prague. After finishing secondary school, he attended the infantry cadet institute in Prague, after its successful completion came in August 1882 to active military service as a cadet in the infantry regiment no. 21. He was promoted to lieutenant, lieutenant to become the infantry regiment no. 16, and later as governor of the second class was transferred to the infantry regiment no. 90 to Jaroslavi. In the ranks of this regiment received promotion to the rank of governor And. class 1. November 1899. Day 1. November, 1909, he was promoted to major and at the same time, he was transferred to infantry regiment no. 6. From July 1880 was the owner of the regiment of the king Carol I. The Romanian and his son Ferdinand was in the same regiment commanding officer. In February 1918 he was entrusted with the functions of the military governor of montenegro and became responsible for the suppression of the uprising in the Bay of Kotor, the governor remained until November 1918.

After the war, Eduard Freiherr von Hospodarž with the honorary rank of major general settled in Vienna, where he lived in the 18. district. In 1938 they were the holders of the various crosses of the Military order of Maria Theresa Medal and the Gold medal for bravery awarded by the German occupying authorities promotion and Eduard von Hospodarž subsequently received the honorary rank of lieutenant general of the German Wehrmacht.
