Moat

Artificially created recess as a rule, orbiting all right. Especially in prehistoric times was the material obtained by excavating the ditch used to build the dřevohlinité walls or the wall. Since fortification as a rule, the use of terrain features, sometimes it could thus be used the natural recesses as the starting point. The trenches we have dug and carved out of a piece (broken) into the rock. Sometimes a moat could lead the communication (that this was prostřelovatelná and controllable from the walls) or could be the trench flooded, whether still or in case of an emergency. To overcome it in peace time served usually the bridge, but also could be in this space moat interrupted. This type of fortification belongs to the oldest type of the fortifying component and over time got certain permutations. A general problem with trenches is their gradual silting, therefore, were in some cases cleaned, but, for example, especially in castles were usually used also as a dump. Ditches may also be supplemented by various other obstacles or barriers.
The roman camps were by trenches in the shape of the letter "V".
From modern times we need anti-tank ditches, these can be purely field (dug into the ground, a maximum paved wood) or permanent (e.g. the czechoslovak pre-war trenches against the offensive vozbě)..
