For the needs of the new anti-tank units (Batteries divisionnaires antichars) armed with the new 47 mm anti-tank gun of the 1937 model, a requirement arose for an artillery tractor designed to tow this gun. The competition was announced on 1.10.1937. It was required to have a maximum speed of 50 km/h, a maximum height of 1.3 meters, the vehicle had to carry 6 crew members, 40 rounds of ammunition and tow the cannon, the weight of which was 1055 kg. The total weight of the vehicle was to be up to 4 tons. In the spring of 1938 it was assessed that the established artillery tractor Lorraine 37L was not suitable for the task. A Laffly W 15 T wheeled tractor, Latil M7 Z1, a FAR TT 3 and a Somua MCJ half-track tractor were entered into the competition.
The FAR TT 3 was an interesting design. It used the engine from the Unic P 107 and its power was transmitted to the triple axles (6x6) by five differentials. The vehicle had remarkable handling characteristics in difficult terrain and could even tow 75 mm guns. However, due to its complicated construction and high weight, it was not accepted for series production.
