IN 5/1918 J.L. Breton (Director of Innovation, Studies and Technical Testing of Artillery) set out the requirements for the creation of self-propelled guns using tank components Renault FT 17.
After the rejected first prototype and second prototype (STAV), the STA (section technique de l'artillerie) developed its own prototype. The prototype was presented in 10/1918. It was a modification of the Renault FT 17. The front section with the driver's seat was retained the engine compartment was moved to the centre of the vehicle and the gun was lafeted in the rear. The three-man crew and gun crew rode in the rear of the vehicle, partially protected by folding armoured panels. These folded down when firing. There were also hinged support ploughshares in the rear to arrest the vehicle when firing. There were also ammunition magazines in the superstructure that protected the gun. The crew also had a machine gun.
Of the trio of designs, this was probably the most sophisticated, but it came at the time of the end of World War I and got no further than its competitors. Only one prototype was made. To accompany the self-propelled gun, a Renault GJ ammunition tank was developed by Renault and STAV (section technique automobile de Vincennes) to supply these self-propelled guns with ammunition.
