The Russian side accused the american cruiser with missile USS Chancellorsville (CG-62) (class Ticonderoga) from the fact that in Philippine (according to other sources in the East) the sea suddenly changed direction and plunged 50 metres from the destroyers with cruise missiles Admiral Vinogradov (Project 1155 Fregat, NATO code class Udaloy), which had to make an emergency maneuver.
The u.s. navy issued a statement in which it is reported that, on the contrary, the Russian destroyer made a dangerous maneuver against the rear side of an american cruiser, which put it in danger in the moment sailed a direct course and constant speed, while on board had to land the helicopter. The american cruiser was forced to make an emergency maneuver to avert a collision.
