Mittlerer Schützen Panzerwagen-Jäger 38(t)
In company documentation BMM, there is an interesting reference to ten medium armoured personnel carriers that the company was to supply to a particular unit under this name. It was to be the 1027th Armoured Grenadier Regiment (Grenadier-Regiment (motorisiert) 1027). This unit fought in Italy in 1944, and on 30 May 1944 was transformed into Grenadier-Brigade (motorisiert) 1027. The author states (see source page 212) that these could be modified dismounted tanks Bergepanzer 38 (t) stripped of their armament. Seats for transported airborne troops may have been fitted in the interior.
Whether this is a mistake or whether the information on this unknown modification of the Jagdpanzer 38 (t) tank fighter has any real basis I will leave up to the readers to decide. Theoretically, a combination of facts such as the mention of a specific unit (cancelled as of 05/30/1944) and the date and number of the first produced Bergepanzer 38 (t) (8 pcs in 5/1944 and 2 pcs in 6/1944) could make this a "speculative-real" basis.
