RBK literally stands for disposable bomb cassette. In conjunction with the weight group designation (RBK-250), it gives the approximate weight of the loaded cartridge, but even so it is only a very general designation. There are several designs of RBK-250, differing in external appearance, and two basic groups of this aerial munition. One group is supplied as complete - the case/cartridge is submunition filled from the manufacturer, the other group is supplied empty and the required submunition is filled only before use, by the forces of the air service.

In RBK cluster bombs, small calibre cluster, anti-tank and incendiary aerial bombs are delivered to the target.
One RBK-250 cluster bomb can store: - 42 AO-2.5sč aerial bombs in two rows, or - 8 AO-10sč aerial bombs in one row, or - 30 PTAB-2,5-1,5 aerial bombs (in two rows), or - 30 ZAO-2,5t aerial bombs, or - 60 l AO-2,5-2 aerial bombs, or - 11 AO-10-6,5st aerial bombs, or - 31 AZ-2 aerial bombs, or - 30 PTAB-2.5 aerial bombs (in two rows).
