164. IAP
In late 1941, the regiment was armed with LaGG-3 aircraft and fought on the Crimean Peninsula. In August 1942 it was moved to the Southwest Front, during which it participated in the fighting at Stalingrad, but in November it was moved to the Caucasus Front, where it was rearmed with La-5 fighters and sent to Saratov in March 1943. In April, the unit returned to the Southwest Front and participated in the battles of Kursk, for Kharkov and in the crossing of the Dnieper River. Moving south again meant a brief liberation of Donbas and Dnepropetrovsk for the regiment. As part of the operations of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, the regiment participated in the liberation of Odessa as part of the 295th Fighter Air Division and took part in the Yasko-Kishinev operation in the summer of 1944. He then fought over Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Hungary. In March 1945, he replaced the La-5FN fighters the regiment's pilots flew with La-7s. In April, in the final weeks of the war, he flew over Austria.
