In June 1941, it was based in southern Urakjina and was armed with I-153 biplanes, with which it engaged in combat against the Romanian Army. Later in the year it was rearmed with LaGG-3 fighters and in 1942 fought as part of the North Caucasus Front, where it remained until the spring of 1943. This was followed by a transfer to the Southern Front and fighting over the Kerch Peninsula and in 1944 over Crimea as part of the . Ukrainian Front. This was followed by a move to the 2nd Belarusian Front and at the end of the war operational flights over Poland
