On 2 February 2021, the Office for the Protection of Competition imposed a fine of CZK 550,000,000 on the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic for violating the Public Procurement Act. The decision is not yet final and may be appealed.
The Ministry committed the offense by unlawfully concluding an agreement with the Government of the United States of America to purchase multi-purpose military helicopters before deciding on the objections of the Italian company Leonardo S.p.A.
The American company Bell will supply eight multi-purpose helicopters UH-1Y Venom and four combat helicopters for $ 646 million, ie 17.6 billion crowns with VAT./200278] AH-1Z Viper.
Italian machines Agusta-Bell AB.139M were cheaper, but did not meet the requirements for specified technical parameters and verification in combat deployment.
The purchase of American helicopters is also to be dealt with by the European Commission, which has requested documents from the Czech Republic.
