- sestřelen Manfredem von Richthofenem (76. z 80), ten o jeho sestřelení uvedl do bojového hlášení toto: ... byly jsme napadeni několika nepřátelskými stíhači v malé výšce... anglické letadlo, které sem napadl začalo hořet po pár výstřelech z mého kulometu. Poté se zřítil, hořel poblíž malého lesa severovýchodně od Villers-Bretonneux, kde na zemi stále hořel.
- po válce se jeho otec spolu s jeho spolubojovníkem a svědkem jeho sestřelení Donaldem Goldem vydali najít jeho ostatky, sice našli místo havárie i trosky jeho Sopwithu Camel D6491, ale jeho tělo nalezeno nebylo a tak je uveden na památníku spojeneckých letců v Arrasu

- shot down by Manfred von Richthofen (76th of 80), about his shot down he wrote into combat report this: ... we attacked several enemy one-seaters at low altitude.. . The English plane which I attacked started to burn after only a few shots from my guns. Then it crashed, burning near the little wood northeast of Villers Bretonneux, where it continued burning on the ground.
- after the war his father with his comrade and eyewitness of his shot down Donald Gold went to find his remains, they successfully located the crash site and found wreckage of his Sopwith Camel D6491, but were unable to discover any trace of his son, so he is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial
