The desire to obtain a fully-fledged armored vehicle designed to move wounded soldiers led to the improvised modification of the OT-810 as part of the improvement movement. The modified vehicle OT-810 was demonstrated to service representatives at a demonstration of the technique at the military training area near Momoni from 20 May 1957 to 4 June 1957. In this improvised design, stretchers were placed on wooden beams with the ends cut off at a 45° angle. The beams were placed on the front and rear of the seat cushions (lower level) and on the front and rear of the seat backrests (second level). A pair of stretchers fit on the lower level and a trio of stretchers fit on the upper level. However, during the development of the OT-810, a permanent modification was resolved to ensure a secure fit for the stretchers. Welded rectangular handles served to arrest the stretchers at the lower level. For the attachment of the stretchers at the upper level, suspension lugs were welded into which straps were fitted. This solution allowed the transport of four recumbent casualties or a pair of recumbent casualties on one side and four seated casualties on the other side (seated on a standard seat). The vehicle had the machine gun breech removed and the commander's opening was covered by a bolted cover. The vehicle had markings of a red cross in a white circle. This modification was mainly applied to the vehicles of the older body design with straight sides. The crew consisted of a driver, a senior medical officer and a medical instructor. The vehicle's equipment included battalion dressing material: a B-1 medical kit in a sack, a box of oxygen bottles and a 0-52 oxygen machine, a reduced B-2 kit, a sterilizer, a PCHB kit, a bag of water, a bucket, and a sink. The vehicles were assigned in groups of three to the illumination squads of the anti-tank batteries of the motorized artillery battalions of the motorized artillery regiments of the motorized artillery divisions.
