Sd.Kfz. 250 in the Czechoslovak Army
Listening to my dad's stories as a kid, reminiscing about his military beginnings (circa 1948), apart from the Cromwell, Stuart and Humber armoured vehicle (Humber Scout Car), there was also the terminus technicus "short hakl"...
Over time, we have identified it as a vehicle Sd.Kfz. 250, but with the exception of a single photo of this type in Sd.Kfz. 250/9 and probably with a red three-digit number (published in a magazine or subject book), all attempts to confirm its existence in the armament of the then Czechoslovak Army have failed....
Until I recently received a neatly "clipped" scan from a friend of mine from a magazine (probably Czechoslovak Soldier, judging by the "quality" of the printing) with the comment that the text was basically a banal agitprop on the subject of training of scouts and the fight against laziness of greasers and against bullying...
The context of the commentary on the training pictures basically fits exactly with the recollections of my father, who served in a reconnaissance platoon or company of a tank-propelled regiment, which for a time was armed with trophy and foreign equipment.
It is most likely a variant of the Sd.Kfz. 250/1 Ausf. B with a simplified hull, the vehicle lacks the Notek reflector and the machine gun armour shield.
I practically rule out that it could be a reconnaissance version Sd.Kfz. 250/5, as the armoured "box" on the left side near the upper edge of the armour is missing, covering the typical antenna joint for this variant, and I doubt that it could be a turret-less variant Sd.Kfz. 250/9 - that would probably make the picture of the soldiers jumping out of the vehicle after it was "shot" look different.
Also worth noting the armament of the scouts (folding "pumps"), the gear of the marker and the training scouts ("camouflage" hoods and boots with buckles - I hope I'm not mistaken)...
I suppose that there will be a good man who will add the number of vehicles of this type, which were in the armament of the Czechoslovak army at a certain date.
"Jazyk" či chcete-li zajatec byl odzbrojen a bude prohledán... Prakticky vše, včetně dokladů a osobních věcí, mu bude odebráno - bude to využito při jeho pozdějším výslechu..
"Nastřeleni v léčce!" Řidič ve zmatku strhl vozidlo mimo cestu a osádka jej chvatně opouští, aby se pokusila o útěk...
