Možnosti podpory Ukrajiny západními zeměmi

Diskuse

As the situation in Ukraine continues to escalate, which could escalate at any time into a full-fledged military clash between Ukraine and Russia, with the question of whether the fighting will be limited to the territories controlled by pro-Russian rebels and the territories properly belonging to Luhansk and Donetsk, but located in the territories controlled by Ukrainian forces, or whether the fighting will eventually affect virtually all of Ukraine, several questions arise. One is the possibility of supplying and supporting Ukraine with military material. Here, some supplies are already taking place. The Czech Republic has donated 4 000 pieces of artillery ammunition, other countries have donated ballistic protection elements and other material. Last but not least, there are various air defense systems. Assuming that it will be possible to continue to supply Ukraine, what do you think are the realistic possibilities? I am not so much referring to the risk of air transport, which would, of course, be very risky or even impossible in the event of a conflict on the whole territory of Ukraine. It is more about what material could be supplied to Ukraine. Of course, elements of ballistic protection for infantry, equipment components, or those already supplied ATGMs, that is one group. But what about other weapons and ammunition? Assuming a prolonged conflict, it would certainly be a question of needs. If Ukraine still had full depots of certain ammunition, it would probably be pointless to supply more of the same. But certainly the required ones could be supplied. However, as for armaments. It is clear from some of the published videos that some of the militiamen or perhaps conscripts or reservists do not have weapons and train only with mock-ups of them. However, if such weapons were to be supplied to them (either as a gift or by sale), could not there be bigger problems for Ukraine itself if there were several different types from different countries? Similarly, if it were to receive supplies of, for example, automotive equipment? What about more complex equipment? Could this not be more counterproductive than beneficial in the end? Ukraine still has a lot of preserved (if not just "discarded") equipment and, for example, in our country the equipment is either only preserved for a long time and in a state from the late 80s or late 90s, or it is used only in small numbers. Understandably, if other (Western) countries (at all) decide to donate or sell (or otherwise provide) their equipment, it is usually (e.g. for tanks) quite different from what Ukrainian soldiers are used to, and there is thus a question whether they would be able to operate and deploy this equipment properly. I know this is getting into the realm of "what if" (what if the Americans delivered 100 of their Abrams...). But I would be interested in the opinion of the rest of you on this issue in general. I'm not concerned with crazy hypotheticals as much as realistic and expedient options for possible aid to Ukraine.
