In connection with the plans to cancel production of tank fighters Panzer IV/70 (V) and Panzer IV/70 (A), respectively, and the planned cancellation of the production of the whole range of types based on the platform Pz.Kpfw. IV, a projection design for a 7.5 cm PaK 42 L/70 gun on the Jagdpanzer 38(t) platform was created in 11/1944 by Krupp. The design envisaged the gun being lafeted into a superstructure located at the rear of the platform. I assume the engine would be moved to the center of the platform. However, this desired variant ran into several design and technical problems. The interceptor would have inadequate armour protection at the calculated maximum weight of 18 tonnes. Not to mention that the Jagpanzer 38(t) chassis was not designed for such a high weight. The proposed vehicle would have been comparable to the Panzer IV/70 (A), which, however, according to reports from frontline units, was not evaluated positively. The project remained on paper only.
