Considerations about the Hungarian Army's need for a transport vehicle had been going on since 1941, when the Honvédelmi Minisztérium (Ministry of National Defence) commissioned the HTI (Military Technical Institute) to draw up a proposal for such a vehicle. It was to be the equivalent of the German half-track transporters Sd.Kfz. 250 and Sd.Kfz. 251.
The Nimrod anti-aircraft vehicle platform was considered suitable. Initial considerations of the staff of the Military Technical Institute envisaged only a slight modification of this platform, which would, however, allow the transport of only half of the combat team (5-6 soldiers). This was not accepted by the army and the requirement was to transport the entire squad (11-12 soldiers). Therefore, the design was redesigned to meet this requirement. The Ministry of National Defence asked MÁVAG to prepare a quotation. However, this was very similar to Nimród and therefore the Ministry did not approve the signing of the contract. Subsequently, the Ministry made a survey abroad, but did not find an adequate type. Even the German ally was not willing to provide such vehicles. Therefore, the acute need for a means of transport led in 1943 to the reincarnation of the Hungarian proposal. Work on the project was completed in 7/1943. A prototype of this transport vehicle, which was based on the original Nimrod prototype, subsequently underwent tests that lasted until mid 8/1943.
The turret was dismantled from the anti-aircraft vehicle and a simple open top superstructure was fitted in its place. The crew protected themselves from inclement weather by stretching a tarpaulin. Plans called for 9 of the platforms to be withdrawn from Nimrod production and another 28 to be built as newbuilds. However, due to the company's backlog of Nimrod production, these plans have been cancelled. The prototype was returned to MÁVAG. However, in the hectic year of 1944, traces of the prototype are lost and its fate is unclear.
The vehicle was to be built in two versions. The vehicles were fully versatile, conversion to either function was to take only 15 minutes.

43M Lehel Á (Árkász)
A vehicle designed to carry infantry with a capacity of 11 persons. However, it was actually intended to carry 1+8 people (a pair of four-seater seats). Although the other three persons could fit in the space, their position in the vehicle was rather makeshift. To protect the vehicle, the crew had one 31M Solothurn machine gun with 1,500 rounds of ammunition. Further protection of the machine was to be provided by the personal armament of the transported squad.

43M Lehel S (Sebesültszállító)
The second version was a sanitation modification. The crew was to consist of a driver + three medics (or seated wounded soldiers) + four recumbent patients. The machine carried no armament.
