Minenräumpanzer Borgward B II (odmínovacie vozidlo)

This design was the result of further development of the Borgward B I mine clearance vehicle.
On 3.4.1940 the 2nd series of Minenräumpanzer was ordered. 100 units were ordered. This new version was designated Borgward B II. It was longer and heavier than its predecessor. The machine had four running wheels and one support pulley. The hull again consisted of frontal armoured plate and the rest was of reinforced concrete. The machine was controlled remotely by radio. The operator controlled it from the control tank Kleiner Panzer Befehlswagen I (Sd.Kfz.265) at a maximum distance of 2 km. One vehicle could drive two vehicles at the same time. The principle of use was similar to that of similar designs Goliath, Borgward BIV and Springer. The vehicle was carrying 515 kg of explosives. The vehicle was pointed at a minefield, a 12 second delay was initiated after the radio command to detonate was given, and the subsequent explosion was intended to destroy mines within a radius of approximately 40 meters. Production of the B II began in 7/1940.
The machines became part of the armament of the special unit Minenräum Abteilung 1, which was formed on 1/12/1940. It consisted of two Minenräumpanzer Kompanie. Each company consisted of three platoons. In each platoon there were 3 Kleiner Panzer Befehlswagen I (Sd.Kfz.265) and 9 B II. The unit was deployed on the Eastern Front at the time of the start of Operation Barbarossa, which began on 22 June 1941. The vehicles proved slow in practice and were easily susceptible to damage from enemy fire before reaching their target. The machine also had difficulty overcoming terrain obstacles.

An amphibious version was also created. It was known under the name "Ente" (duck). The vehicle was tested in the Baltic in 1943 by the 1st Panzer-Versorgungs- und Ersatz-Abteilung 300 (Fkl.).
