AN/PPS-5
The AN/PPS-5 radar was developed in 1967. It was introduced into the armament of the U.S. Army's mechanized, tank and airborne units, where it gradually replaced the older AN/PPS-4 type. The system allows the detection of moving targets and the evaluation of their distance, azimuth and position angle. It can detect a person up to 3 km away, and a moving target the size of a tank or truck up to 5 km away. The target detection error is +/- 30 m (in distance) or +/- 1° (in azimuth). The radar is operated by one person. The whole set weighs about 25 kg. The continuous operation time can be up to 12 hours.
