The white scout car is one of the most famous wheeled armored vehicles of the US Army. The shape and size of the hull suggest that it is a vehicle related to the M2 to M21 series of Half Tracks. The Scout Car was manufactured by the same company, White, and was equipped with the same engines, White 160AX and Hercules JXD, as the Half Tracks. According to some sources about 21,000 units were produced between 1941 and 1944, according to others only about 16,500 units were produced.
TTD:
Weight: 4.5 - 6 t depending on type
Dimensions: 5620x2040x2200mm
Armouring: 6.4 - 12.7 mm
Speed: on the road up to 90 km/h
Range: 400 km
Consumption: approx. 33l/100km
A special feature of these vehicles (and some versions of Halftracks) is the suspension roller on the front of the hull, which was supposedly designed to make it easier to cross sand dunes.
The vast majority of these armoured vehicles were used by the US Army, but a significant number also served in the British and Canadian armies. More than 3,000 were delivered to the Red Army under the Loan and Lease Agreement. There are known pictures of "Scouts" from Prague in May 1945. They were also used by the Polish Army formed in the USSR.
Probably 24 units were also in the armament of the Czechoslovak Independent Armoured Brigade. They were used by armourers, mechanics, paramedics and doctors.
A photo of one of them, by Mr. Vilém Fencl, is at: /topic/view/31480/
In the period after 1945, Scout Cary M2 -M3A1 was bought by armies of other countries, for example Australia,Belgium,France, Italy, Canada. But they were also in the armament of the armies of Chile, Laos, Mexico, Peru,Turkey. The Israeli army used a larger number of its own Scout Car conversions.
