155 mm cannon wz. 40

In 1928, the Armaments Commission decided to commission the development of a real long-range cannon. Cannons vz. 13 and vz. 29 of French origin was originally called long-range, but in reality it was a cannon for medium distances

In 1930, it was decided to purchase 25 works from Plzeňská Škoda, but for unknown reasons the purchase was not made (most likely due to the crisis).
In 1933, the possibility of purchasing new, more modern works was again considered, but due to the very long delivery times, 36 months were not purchased for Škoda and 58 months for Schneider.

It was decided on its own production, the gun carriage was to come from a mortar 122 mm, the barrel was due to ignorance of production technology to supply the company Bofors. The company in Strachowice was entrusted with the coordination of the development itself. The prototype was built in 1937, and in the spring of 1938 it was tested in Břežec nad Bugem.

During the tests, the cannon had a scatter of only 500 m from the target (Schneider's cannon 1 900 m) and a range of 27 300 m. In 1939 he was officially tested at the military polygon - the cannon was accepted with the only reservation in terms of rate of fire - 3 rounds per minute.
The cannon was to be towed by a C7P tractor, which proved to be unsuitable for towing this cannon. The cannon was accepted into service as wz. 40, with production expected from 1941.
