The british airline protizemní bomb against zodolněným objectives. Its development was terminated at the end of the second world war under the proposal, Barnes N. Wallis.
Production at the company Vickers & Co. in Sheffield has been very demanding on time. for Example, the filling of the bombs explosive mixtures was carried out manually. In a hot bath dissolved explosive mixture is carried in buckets, after layers to deliver using scoops and in a semi state by using wooden rammers with zhutňovala. Of work carried out, a group of four persons. Of them each to fulfil their personal input
1/ pouring of the mixture,
2/ tamping of the mixture,
3/ lighting cavity bombs,
4/ supervision of compliance with the manufacturing process.
The Grand Slam was first used on the night of 13. 14. march 1945 for the destruction of objectives which successfully withstood the previous bombing. Raid 617. Squadrons on bielefeldský the bridge was at a cruising altitude of 16000 feet (4877 m). Bomb the Grand Slam target directly hit, yet the shock wave and the earthquake disrupted several fields and the pillars of the bridge.
Another example about the effectiveness of the bombs can be a raid on the submarine docks at Bremen. Two of the bombs penetrated the reinforced concrete ceiling thickness of 23 feet (7,01 m). The Grand Slam was the largest used by a bomb of the second world war.

Coloring
Coloring was in principle identical with the bomb type Tallboy.
- body bomb in the color dark green or gray
- the "tail bomb" was in the color of the metal
- headboard bombs had identification stripes in these colours, thin stripe was red, the strong was green with a black inscription "Torpex D1"
- text with data on the weapon in the color black
