The company Hansa-Brandenburg received in 1916 the contract for a small on-board the aircraft for service on křižníkových submarines 139 and At 155. For the tower of the submarine should be placed waterproof 6 m long and 2 m wide roller, serving as a hangar. Designer Ernst Heinkel for these purposes, created a knock-down biplane flying boat with a pusher engine, which could be dismantled within six minutes four men. The requirement was that the layout and composition of the letounku must be able to even an untrained crew and can be used only a hammer. The wings were removable, the engine with the fuel tank is put to the tail. Built were three machines, each slightly different. The first machine had the upper wing carried by four struts, which from the front view, create the letter In. This fragile operating the machine also fragile he was and was badly damaged during the tests. A second machine got over the first lower wing of greater span, new balance plováčky and mezikřídelní struts, replaced by a considerably stronger added on each side of the other pair, so that when the front view of a letter M. This machine, 1552, is on the photo in the following post. At the time of its construction but the navy withdrew its claim in favour of the metal, which is assumed much greater resistance to the elements, which require service on a submarine. Yet according to the original contract, built a third machine, which got the bottom wings with a slight vzepětím and inserted into the fuselage slightly below than that of previous machines. Two struts, which the previous machines on each wing were added, replaced one. Other fates of all three machines (the first prototype was meanwhile rebuilt) are not known. Successor in their category became the LFG IN.19, all-metal jednoplošníček, whose but the end of the war caught in a single prototype.
