In the years 1940/41, an experimental series of 20 tanks was created Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf.G, which were used to test a new type of undercarriage (Schachtellaufwerk), chassis similar to those used in later types of tanks Panther and Tiger They had large wheels and chassis groups from the company Fahrzeug und Motorenbau GmbH Breslau.


First, a prototype was built on the platform Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.G (Fgst.Nr.65462) equipped with a standard tower 6. ZW what was mounted on version Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.G. The prototype passed tests in Kummersdorf, St. Johane and at the Maybach site in Friedrichshafen.
Later, a series of 20 pieces was built Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.G (Fgst.Nr. 65531 - 65550), the last 20 tanks from the order to the Ausf.G version of the company Alkett). It was a combination of platforms Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.G and towers of the next version Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.H (7.ZW).
After passing the tests, the prototypes were first used in school units for training, later some of them were equipped with blades and used to remove ruins from bombed places.
