97. Gruppo Autonomo CT
15.march 1943 was the newly established 97. Gruppo as a fighter from the original 97. Gruppo Autonomo BT, composed of 226. sq and 227. sq, at the airport in Ciampinu received the twin engine Romeo Ro.57bis. Unfortunately the aircraft proved to be unsuitable for the original detention of the prosecution, mainly due to the inadequate rate of climb and speed. The aircraft was modified for dive-bombing and served in practising attacks on ground targets. In June 1943, the unit carried out one cash start, escort of convoys and two anti-submarine patrols. 13. July 1943 was ten of fifteen Ro.57bis destroyed in an air raid about 300 machines B-24 at the airport in Crotone. The remaining four airworthy machines flown into the Tarquinii, and were maintained using spare parts from the wrecks of the bases Ciampino and Naples, Aeroporto Militare del Campo di Marte di Ugo Niutto / . The unit was definivitně dissolved 10.August 1943..
