At the end of 1943, BMW and the Wesserhütte won a contract to develop a small "Rutscher" ("grinder") tank destroyer.
At the beginning of 1944, however, a competing project Jagdpanzer 38 (t) was selected for series production and the "Rutscher" project was stopped.
However, the project was re-evaluated in 1/1945 and its serial form began to be considered.
The specified specifications spoke of a small, lightly armored anti-tank vehicle (front - 20 mm, sides - 14.5 mm) with a crew of two men, a clear height of 35 cm. The vehicle had to reach a high maximum speed with a 90-horsepower engine. The armament was to consist of a PAW cannon ( Panzerabwehr-Wurfkanone PWK 8H63 (Gerät 5-0864)) and one machine gun. The demand was for the accelerated position of five prototypes.
Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen worked on two different gearboxes designed for the planned tank destroyer (5-speed FAK-45 and semi-automatic gearbox of unknown name). They were designed to accompany the planned diesel engine from Saurer with an output of 150 hp (HP).
March 19, 1945, the program of development of a small tank destroyer was evaluated as in the foreseeable future. It was a Wesserhütte project (3.5 tons), for which it was necessary to develop all the basic components as new, in which case the start of series production would be feasible in about 1.5 to 2 years.
At the beginning of the project (1943/44) there was also a design by Büssing (5 tons).
The German command has concluded that a vehicle of less than 7-9 tonnes has no value. Due to the small effective range of the anti-tank missile (about 750 meters), it had to be a vehicle that had to have stronger armor protection when encountering enemy tanks.
Due to the critical military and industrial situation of Germany, the "Rutscher" project was canceled. Prototypes of weight categories 3.5 t (Wesserhütte) and 7.5 t ( Daimler-Benz) were to be completed and delivered for testing. Eventually, it was considered to increase the possibilities of the main armament. The installation of a 7.5 cm Kw.K was planned for effective combat management over 700 meters. L/48.

Ammunition for the cannon were Wgr.Patr. 4462, with cumulative head Pwk.Gr.5071. The weapon was manufactured by Volf in Magdeburg. By the end of the war, they produced about 260 pieces of this cannon.
