Zvezda K-36L
The Zvezda K-36L ejection seat is a lightweight version of the K-36DM seat designed for Sukhoi Su-25 /39 combat aircraft.
The seat is adapted for a shortened ejection sequence (necessary for low-altitude ejections) and has dismantled folding hand restraints and a head deflector designed to pierce the cabin in the event of an ejection over an unthrown overhead (this ejection option is precluded by the design of the overhead Su-25/39, which has a metal beam in the top part on which the mirror is placed and which prevents excessive stretching of the armoured glass of the cabin by its own weight).
The seat is equipped as standard with a pair of stabilizing parachutes (located in the pouches on the sides of the head) and a main and backup parachute (located in the back support) for the pilot. The parachute harness is a two-piece harness, i.e. the main parachute harness is attached to the pilot before boarding the aeroplane and in the aeroplane it is attached to the seat and the parachutes placed in it by 5 short straps. Emergency equipment including a dinghy, food supply, first aid kit, survival kit and radio station is carried in the seat and headrest. The back of the seat and the headboard are equipped with light armouring.
Due to modifications for a shortened ejection sequence, the seat carries a weaker rocket motor that does not allow 0-0 characteristics. The minimum ejection altitude is specified by the manufacturer at 60 metres at horizontal speeds in excess of 350 km/h.
