After the first the P-26A was reordered another 25 machines, which were originally identical, just from the beginning counted with the sealing flaps. Later, under the influence of the tests of the seven Boeing YP-12K with engines with direct fuel injection Wright Field have decided that it is tested on the P-26A. Why were the first two machines of this series completed with engines of the R-1340-33, and the subsequent adjustments in the balance of the machine led to the renaming of the P-26B, a corporate designation was changed to the 266A. The first P-26B, 33-179, flew to Wright Field 20. June 1935, the second, 33-180, a day later at Selfridge, where he became the personal aircraft of Lt. Col. Ralph Royce, commander of the 1. fighter group.

The remaining 23 aircraft were completed as P-26C, after a year of service but the army, satisfied with the two machines with engines with direct injection, also decided these machines to equip the engines version of -33, which happened in 1937 in Fairfield air depot. Rebuilt, it was 17 cars, of which 14 were later sent to Hawaii, where they supplemented the local P-26A at the airport Wheeler Field and part of them was destroyed during the japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The last surviving P-26B, converted P-12C 33-197, was eliminated as a flightless training aid 22. October 1942..
