Poznámka:
Note:
- The XP-60C (Model 95C, Army serial number 42-79424) was originally to have had an airframe similar to that of the XP-60A and XP-60B, but fitted with the new and experimental 2,300 hp Chrysler XIV-2220 engine. Since this engine was experiencing development difficulties, an order was given in September 1942 to complete this aircraft with a 2,000-hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800-53 engine driving a a pair of three-bladed contrarotating propellers. Armament was reduced to four 0.50-inch machine guns. First flight of the XP-60C was on January 27, 1943. Apart from somewhat high elevator and rudder forces, the aircraft's flight characteristics were generally satisfactory.

During trials with the XP-60C at Patterson Field, it proved impossible to obtain full rated power. In addition, the experimental wing finish had peeled off from the leading edge of the wing, destroying the smooth laminar-flow characteristics and resulting in a further loss of speed. Consequently, the XP-60C made a very poor impression on the Army, being in fact inferior to the Republic P-47D and the North American P-51B. The P-60 series was henceforth eliminated from any further consideration for production. In June 1943 the Army contract for the P-60A-1-CU was reduced from 500 to just two aircraft.

Following the return of the XP-60C to Curtiss-Wright, some further tests were undertaken, but a forced landing terminated all testing work with this aircraft.

The prototype of the XP-60C factory marked as a Model 95C (Sn 42-79424) was originally meant to resemble aircraft, the XP-60 and XP-60B. The difference should be only in the power unit, the first two prototypes had run the motor Allison V-1710-55 with turbo compressors GE B-14, and a Wright SU-504-2, the third prototype was to be powered by šestnáctiválcovým engine Chrysler XIV-2220. This engine however never exceeded the stage of development and so was the third prototype of the adapted for mounting dvouhvězdicového osmnáctiválce Pratt & Whitney R-2800-53 that powered two trojlisté counterrotating propellers. Aircraft armament was reduced to four half-inch scale machine guns. During the factory tests have been found quite satisfactory flight characteristics, factory pilots complained only of the great strength to control the rudder.

The USAAF in the meantime (April 1943), decided that the base of the Patterson Field performs comparison tests of all upcoming and tested aircraft already used by the fighters. Curtiss-Wright, however, still did not připravoný the fourth prototype XP-60E and so in Patterson delivered the XP-60C. During the test the engine failed to deliver the desired performance, the problems have also had a laminar wing, which odlepovaly nýběžné edges and thus there has been considerable resistance. Army pilots don't hide their disappointment, because the performances did not reach even close to the performances of P-47D and P-51B. Curtiss P-60 was eliminated from further development funded by the army. Pre-order for 500 fighter aircraft P-60A-1CU was seškrtnuto on pohé two prototypes.

After the infamous return was factory pilots carried out several test flights, which ended an emergency landing, after which the aircraft already fixed..
