4.2in (ARDE) QF 127/58 SBT X1

At the beginning of the 50s of the last century, the development of a new PL cannon in Great Britain began, which was to replace the heavy PL cannons introduced into armament during World War II. war and who would be able to provide PL defense against ever-improving jets. Vickers also participated in the development of the type commissioned by the Royal Armamnets Research & Development Establishment in Fort Hanstead. The project was named "Green Mace". The cannon was to be automated so that one person would be enough to operate it. The whole project was canceled in 1957. Among other things, the transport of this large weapon was problematic, using a 6x6 tractor, which, in addition to the cannon itself, also towed two trailers with ammunition and material and technical support.
An expeller was made in 1954 and has been preserved in the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich, London.

Diskuse

Dear,
on Monday, 11. July 2011 we with my colleague Ivan Fojtíkem visited: Firepower - The Royal Artillery Museum in London. Thanks to the kindness of mr. Forest Smith, Collections Manager RAM, we could shoot in the deposit of the artillery museum.

I am presenting a selection of photos that document the current state of the exhibit "Green Mace".
