>>Systém označení japonských motorů<<

a System for indicating aircraft engine.

This system started to be used from in April 1942, (04/42), the purpose of the introduction of this system should be to eliminate inaccuracies in the labelling, which arose previously separate labelling of aeronautical engines by the army and naval air force, it was the engines that used both ingredients. The old label was no longer cluttered and complex.
The new label should have four basic parts: (ex. Ha-45-23 engine, air-cooled dvojhvězdicový osmnáctiválec, bore 130 mm stroke 150 mm, model 23 - u of this model has removed the problem of drop in boost pressure, see Nakajima Ki-84)

and.) Ha- (Hatsudoki) japanese engine

b.) the First digit to identify the type and version of the engine with regard to the cooling and the arrangement and number of cylinders
1. air-cooled in-line
2. air-cooled radial
3. air-cooled dvojhvězdicový čtrnáctiválec
4. air-cooled dvojhvězdicový osmnáctiválec
5. air-cooled vícehvězdicový and víceválcový engine
6. liquid-cooled engine
7. liquid-cooled víceválcový engine (more than 12)
8. diesel engine
9. special engines

c.) Second digit divides the engines by bore and stroke the engine cylinder [mm]
1. 140/130
2. 150/170
3. 140/150
4. 140/160
5. 130/150
0. 130/160

d.) the Last two digits of the represented the execution, or engine model of a given type.

Must say that the new designation was used especially in the navy, just as an additional and preferred was the designation of the sea, it also took over the scientific literature. .

Japanese naval air force used the earlier two systems for marking it used aircraft engines. The first designation was allocated already in the course of development, the assigned code was 4-5 digit and mark the factory that the engine made, the basic type and the model of the engine.. If this engine maritime air force adopted, he was assigned the name and on behalf of the mentioned model number.

Designations assigned during the development:
The first character identifies the manufacturer:
M - Mitsubishi
N - Nakajima
And - Aichi
K - Kawasaki
I - Ishikawajima
Y - air technical arsenal in Yokosuce
G – Hitachi

The second character indicates the version:
K – air cooled
E – liquid-cooled
D – Diesel – diesel engine

The third character type number

The fourth character version of the engine

Bc. MK4Q – manufacturer is Mitsubishi, air-cooled engine, the fourth engine type and version denoted as Q. After the adoption of the maritime air force in the arsenal of the got assigned the name of the Kasei 22.

Here is the decoding even more difficult the last two digits is composed again of two characters the first is a product line of (00, 10, 20, 30...) and the second place indicates the version of the engine, but because it is the engines , which were the maritime air force received and no development designations, disagree here, as a rule, the designation of the type or version.

The label we assign is this: the Engine name Kasei (that we know of implement cylinders, engine size, cooling method, or the type of fuel, it was for all engines with the name Kasei common )

The last number indicates the second version, thus the model – here the power of the engine, injection chemicals, etc.

The first number in the range of – here version compressor, equipment reducer or gear ratio.

Well, and from 1942 was even introduced above, a common designation then this engine is labelled in the literature as MK4Q or Kasei 22 or Mitsubishi Ha-32-22, or more frequently Mitsubishi Ha-32/22.
