Sabra Mk.2 represents the most effective way to modernize armor. It is a new and improved generation of the Sabra tank. It offers a wide range of assembly improvements and required adjustments according to customer needs. Israel Military Industries ltd.[/Quote]
History The Sabra Mk.2 tank is another outcome of the development line starting with the American tank series M60, through its Israeli successor in the form of tanks from the series Magach up to its direct predecessor, the tank Sabra (also known as Sabra Mk.1 ). This tank was also developed primarily for export purposes (especially for Turkey).
Description The Sabra Mk.2 vehicle uses a chassis from American tanks of the M60 series, equipped with a new propulsion unit, a completely new Israeli-made tower and, of course, new electronic equipment. The armored protection of the hull and tower of the tank is solved through modular armor, which allows you to easily repair damage from combat and can be easily improved. The tower, which is electrically rotated, is equipped with a 120 mm MG251 cannon with a smooth bore. The same cannon is also used by tanks Merkava Mk.3 and Merkava Mk.4 from the armament of the Israeli armored corps, and has effective range 3,000 - 3,500 m depending on the type of ammunition used. Along with the cannon is coupled 7.62 mm machine gun FN MAG/M240 in caliber 7.62 mm. On the tower, as is customary in Israeli technology, can be placed another 2 machine guns FN MAG/M240 caliber 7.62 mm, designed to suppress living and unprotected forces, lightly armored vehicles and to conduct fire on low-flying aircraft and helicopters. Accurate cannon fire is provided by an improved Knight Mk.3 fire control system (supplied by Elbit), a digital ballistic computer, a shooting sight with TV and thermal imaging, a panoramic command day/night sight, and a laser rangefinder. The driver is equipped with a passive night vision device. The heart of the tank is a powerful "power-pack", consisting of the General Dynamics GD 883 engine, which is a licensed German MTU 883 engine, and the Renk Rk 325 automatic transmission (this is the MT 883 Ka-500 set). Thanks to this, the tank has 1,500 PS (hp) and has 5 forward and 2 reverse speeds. It is an easily replaceable module. The same engine is used by the tank Merkava Mk.4. The tank is also equipped with two six-barrel externally mounted IS-6 smoke grenade launchers, providing the tank with "invisibility" for optical and TV tank sights, as well as against guided anti-tank missiles guided optically. Furthermore, for its protection, it is equipped with an infrared and laser search system, designed to determine the place of radiation so that the tank commander can quickly decide on the right direction in which the countermeasure will be taken. The Sabra Mk.2 is equipped with an automatic fire extinguishing system, an explosion suppression system and a warning warning system. The tank is equipped with modular passive armor protection, which is the successor of ERA reactive armor. It is equipped with a filter-ventilation overpressure device + individual device against weapons of mass destruction (killing).
