SOV - ZSU-37 (37 mm samohybný PLK)

ZSU-37 (ЗСУ-37)

The 37 mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun ZSU-37 was developed at the request of the troops, who, after experience with Luftwaffe attacks, wanted a means capable of operating effectively against aircraft and, at the same time, advancing in formation with advancing tank columns. The development of the vehicle took place in 1942-1944, when 6 prototypes were built in succession. The ZSU-37 was the first Soviet anti-aircraft vehicle on a tracked chassis to be mass-produced.

The vehicle consisted of a self-propelled gun chassis SU-76 (later SU-76M), on which was mounted a rotating, top-exposed armored turret with a 61-K 61-K (AZP-39, M1939) armor-piercing 37 mm cannon. The vehicle was equipped with an optical sight with stereoscopic diaľcrometer with a base of 1 m, a 9RM (possibly 12RT) radio and an internal TPU-3F call point.

The serial production of the vehicle started after the problems with the sufficiently fast turnaround of the turret were solved and was provided by the Mitishinsky Machine-Building and Gorky Automobile Plant (Мытищинском Машиностроительном a Горьковском Автомобильном заводах). By the end of the Great Patriotic War, 70 machines were built (75 according to other sources), but only 12 of them, produced in early 1945, were involved in the fighting. According to the Polish Wikipedia, production was resumed in 1948 and a total of about 340 machines were built.

This aircraft remained in service long after the end of the war and the SU-76M was also in service.
