STABO (Startbahnbombe)
An anti-concrete bomb designed for use in a weapons container MW-1. After being ejected from the container, the bomb is braked by a parachute. During the descent, the front cover falls off and the impact igniter is ejected. The combat section has two segments. The first cumulative one breaks through the top concrete of the runway when the bomb hits. With a small delay, the second (main) combat segment is subsequently initiated, creating a crater. This is to make repair of the damaged runway more difficult. While there is only a small hole in the concrete, there is a large cavity underneath caused by the explosion of the main charge.
The STABO bomb passed the German Air Force's military trials in 1986. The container MW-1 can carry up to 200 of these bombs.
