In 1942, Lancia was instructed to copy a British armored car Dingo, captured in North Africa. Italy was led by the fact that none of the armored vehicles they used was suitable for rapid reconnaissance.
Italian designers copied the pattern very faithfully, Linz differed only in the sloping walls of the fuselage and modified engine compartment.
The prototype was first tested in November 1942 and 300 serial pieces were ordered, by September 1943, 263 were produced. At that time, however, the political situation changed and cars were taken over by RSI units and especially the Wehrmacht. He also ordered further production and by the end of the war a total of 392 pieces were produced.
The line then served reliably on the front in Italy and was popular with his crews.
After the war, he got into the armament of the new Italian army, served in the police and carabinieri.
