Douglas DB-8A-3N

Nizozrmské air force ordered for Douglas its aircraft at the beginning of 1939 and early in November was the last of them delivered, the Dutch had them assigned hull numbers 381 - 398.
It was an all-metal aircraft with retractable landing gear. In the hull was placed a small bomb bay, the bombs were directed from the hranatého polozatažitelného ledge under the fuselage. Machine-gun armament were given the aircraft up in February and march 1940, when the ordered weapons arrived from Belgium. Douglasy were then added to the 3. fighter squadron (3e Ja.In.And.) 2. the aviation regiment at the airport, Ypenburg, although with them originally it was envisaged to fulfil the tactical bomber and reconnaissance tasks.

In the day of the assault, the country Germany was in a state of 3. squadron 11 aircraft DB-8. Shortly after the outbreak of fighting at the airport of Ypenburg attacked by the Luftwaffe. Against intruders took off all 11 Douglasů and Fokker D.XXI from the 1e Ja.In.And. There was a sharp contest, during which the Dutch got to the transport, the Ju 52, and the two squadrons reported after one kill. But then he emerged backing of the Bf 110 and it was sick. Seven Douglasů was shot down and four remaining in the rush of landing, and were also destroyed, eight airmen lost their lives. Sister-1e Ja.In.And. has not done any better and has lost four Fokker. During the moments then the airport was Ypenburg is out of service. Participation Douglasů DB-8 in the battle thus ended.

Five backup machines was after the occupation of the land requisitioned and the two of them were exposed to in Germany.
