Miles M.27 Master Mk.III

As late as 1939, the Master's fuselage was modified to accept a Bristol Mercury radial engine in place of the dwindling supply of Kestrels. However, as even these were in short supply, a parallel proposal was made to fit American Pratt & Whitney R-1535-SB4G Twin Wasp Junior engines, supplied under the Lend-Lease. This variant was designated as the Miles M.27 Master Mk.III. Preference was eventually given to the Master II with the Mercury engine, but production of the Wasp variant also began in 1940, with 602 built by 1942. The use was the same as the previous versions. For training it could be armed with one 7.7mm machine gun and eight light bombs.
